Workflow Legend

Real-Time Designer enables you to customize the shapes and colors of steps in a workflow to improve readability. For example, you may want to color-code all the steps in a workflow that perform a specific action, such as displaying a callout to the agent. You can use a particular shape and color for such steps, making them easily recognizable in the workflow.

Workflow steps can be color-coded in this fashion by first creating a legend entry, and then applying it to the applicable steps in the workflow.

Workflow legends are defined per project. Generally, solutions are separated into different projects. If you want to use the same legend for all projects, it is recommended that you define a separate project that contains the legend definitions, and then reference that project from all your other projects that contain workflows.

To define a workflow legend entry:

1. Click Edit Legend on the ribbon to define a legend entry. The following window is displayed:

2. Click the button to add an entry to the legend.

3. In the Step Type column, assign a meaningful name to the legend entry.
4. To set the graphical appearance for the legend entry, click in the Text Appearance column.

5. In the Shapes drop-down list, select the shape for the legend entry. The list displays standard workflow shapes with relevant names. Each shape in the list has a default color. You can change this default color using the Color field. You cannot add shapes to this list.
6. Set the color of the shape using the Color and Fore Color fields. These two fields work together to set the color for the shape. The top of the shape uses the Color value and the bottom of the shape uses the Fore Color value. The colors are merged to create a gradient in between.
7. Click OK to save the legend entry. You can view the legend and all its entries by clicking the Legend tab at the far right of the main window.

To apply a legend entry to a step:

1. In the workflow, right-click the step to which you want to apply a legend entry and select Set Legend. A submenu is displayed, listing all legend entries.

2. Select the applicable item in the list. After making your selection, the shape of the step changes to the one defined in the legend entry.
